The Leadership Mandala

I have been creating mandalas for years. Long before I became a coach, it was a mandala painting workshop that cracked something open and reconnected me with my purpose.

So it felt right that when I was exploring my brand story and mapping my approach and understanding of leadership, a mandala emerged.

The Leadership Mandala has four concentric layers. Each one builds on the one before it, with the work always starting at the centre — with you.

The Four Layers

Layer 1 – The Self

Everything begins here. Your core motivators, your beliefs, your patterns under pressure, the gap between your best self and your shadow… Most leadership development skips this layer entirely; I think it’s the only place to start.

Layer 2 – Leadership Expression

How ‘The Self’ shows up in your leadership. The way you communicate, make decisions, handle conflict, give feedback and respond under stress. This is the layer most visible to your team and the one most directly shaped by what’s happening in Layer 1.

Layer 3 – Team Alignment

How your leadership expression shapes your team dynamics. The culture you create, consciously or not. The trust you build or erode. The conditions in which your people do their best work (or don’t). A team’s alignment is always, in some part, a mirror of its leader (yep, I said it!).

Layer 4 – Integration

The layer that holds everything together. Without it, people return to old patterns and the change doesn’t stick. Integration is the ongoing practice of making the inner shifts real in the outer world, so they become not just what you know, but who you are.

The Ripple Effect

The energy, beliefs behaviours and emotional patterns a leader carries ripple outward into every interaction, relationship, decision and culture they create.
This work doesn’t just stay at work. When something shifts at the centre (in you) it is felt by every room you walk into and everyone in your orbit. I know how that sounds, but I’ve seen it happen enough times to say it without apology… This work changes lives. Plural.

How it Works

The self shapes everything that follows

The self shapes leadership expression. Leadership expression shapes team dynamics. Team dynamics shape culture, outcomes and impact. Integration makes the changes stick.

Most leadership development only focuses on Layer 2 — the visible behaviours — without addressing what’s driving them in Layer 1. The Leadership Mandala is intended to go deep to create lasting, sustainable change.

The coaching process that moves you through it

The Courageous Alignment Method

The Courageous Alignment Method is how I work with leaders inside this framework. It’s a three-stage coaching process — Clarity, Confrontation and Alignment — that takes you from the centre of the mandala outward.

Step 1: Clarity

Before anything can shift, you need to understand what’s actually driving you. Using the PRINT® psychometric tool alongside deep coaching conversations, we uncover your core motivators, your natural strengths and the shadow behaviours that emerge under stress. This is the foundation everything else is built on.

Step 2: Confrontation

This is the courageous part. It means looking honestly at the gap between who you are at your core and how that’s actually showing up in your leadership. I ask the questions others might not. We name what’s true, even when it’s uncomfortable.

Step 3: Alignment

With clarity and honesty established, you can start making choices that reflect your actual values. We build the practical shifts and the integration practices that make the change stick long after our work together ends.
